From the luxurious hotels to budget inns this place has something to offer to everyone. From grand buffets to cheap hotels, it can serve food for any budget. Not interested in gambling, there are many things that can occupy you.

But what happens when there are ladies are in the house?

Excitement, Excitement, Excitement…

This brings me to why I am writing about Women in Vegas. I am so excited to be part of the Las Vegas Women of color conference on Aug 15-16th. . This exciting event is organized by a dynamic lady, Debra Nelson, Vice President, Corporate Diversity and Community Affairs, MGM Mirage, who is a role model and a friend.

I am thrilled and honored to be part of an amazing list of speakers. Here is a brief list: Faculty

Specifically, I am talking about my favorite topic “ Social Media – Taboos & Innovative Uses” .

Also, the conference includes Mentor/Mentee Scavenger Hunt & Walk at 8am on Aug 15th.
At this first-ever event, you will be paired with a fellow conference participant to get to know each other and to share ideas. The real icing on the cake: BE prepared to move with Zumba!!! A fun way to interact…I am excited to be one of the mentors.

Here is a brief Agenda

Great women, great location and great opportunity - You don’t want to miss this…Wish you will join me.

Technology is the only field in which FLEXIBILITY means 24×7 availability. I spoke at Paypal to their Women in Technology group to give them a talk on Work Life Balance. I emphasized on seeing work as part of life. It constitutes a struggle when we see WORK and LIFE as two different and competing entities.

Moreover, women in technology need to have a new relationship with word ‘AMBITION’.

We need to understand that ‘Ambition is NOT a DIRTY Word’.

This is that time of the year when we get a chance to reflect back on the year and be grateful for things in our lives.

When I started my Diversity and Advancement Of Women journey in 2007, I was clueless of how things will shape out. I knew I loved this work and this was my “calling”. My desire to dabble in this work tested me out as I faced many challenges. And then, I found many people along the way who believed in me and enriched my life with their guidance.

So, today I am taking the opportunity to Thank these people who accompanied me and guided me.

1.
Seth Godin Live in Silicon Valley: I was in my MBA program when I first came across Seth’s name. I read his book “Purple Cow” and became a huge fan. In 2007, he visited Bay Area sponsored by “Invincibelle” and “Edithyeung.com“. It meant a lot to me. Thanks to Rajesh Setty, Edith Yeung and SETH himself.

2. Steve Piazzale invited me to his “You’re Hired” TV show: I was invited to speak about what vision I had to empower women in the workforce. Thanks to Steve Piazzale for sharing my vision with his viewers.

3.
I was inspired by Dr. Flores thoughts to develop this talk. Thanks to Carol Evans for the opportunity to share it with participants of Working Mother Media events.

Here is a newsflash, have you looked in the mirror…Do you trust people?

Most recently, I have spoken to many women who believe that the real opportunity for women’s pay parity has arrived. Finally, we have more women in the workforce and all these women are still making 77cents for a $1 for what a man makes. As many men have been let go and have their wives, partners and girlfriends emerging as the primary bread winner. They are understanding that if they had the similar job, they would have been paid higher dollars.

In any case, women are finding themselves now more stretched between the demands of work and life. As if this was not enough, may companies have increased the bar on the face time employees have in the company. Essentially, women are now over-whelmed….and these companies are sending the message that they do not TRUST their employees. So, the need to have them in the office.

This has a negative impact on the morale of the women. They are not feeling empowered. The real question is when are we going to grow up?

We need to trust our employees to do their work and produce. Where they do this work in not a concern…Trust is about loosing CONTROL…and to extend trust in a way that helps people build long-term relationships in which both the trusting and trusted party – keep their focus on RESULTS and INTEGRITY.

“The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little” ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882 – 1945)

Recession gives us a sense of scarcity – scarcity of jobs, scarcity of resources and scarcity of money. We get scared with scarcity as there is a potential threat to our lives. We are gripped in fear and insecurity. This fear is based on the perceived threat of survival.

But it is in Recession that we need to embrace the sense of Abundance. There is never a better time to have abundance of help, abundance in collaboration and abundance in doing good for the community.

Here is why Recession calls for Abundance:
1. There is enough for everybody. Only in Abundance, we can empower others from minority communities to become competent and become effective to contribute to bigger organizational, community or company’s goal.

2. Collaboration is the winner. When we collaborate we need less personal investment in resources, time and energy.

3. Money is just energy: Money is a energy that keeps things alive and fresh. Hoarding it will not create wealth. It is in recession that you can buy things for cheap, invest and seize opportunities.

Come from a sense of Abundance if you want to come out as a winner in Recession. The abundance-mindset is a choice. In other words, you choose to look through the lens of scarcity, or through the lens of abundance. There is no in-between.

But do they describe the truth of the matter? Stone, an associate professor of sociology at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center, set out to answer this question after discovering that there was no research on the matter; perceptions of these women were shaped almost exclusively by the media. Stone conducted in-depth interviews with 54 women: white women who had been highly successful professionals and were married to men who could support them while they stayed at home—i.e., women who had a “choice.” What Stone found was fascinating and surprising: women quit because of work, not family, and only as a last resort

Kathleen Gerson, a sociologist at New York University who studies families and the labor market, said the census figures come as a reality check. Opting out, she said, “is not and never has been and will not be a revolution,” she said. “Far more women are in the workplace than not, and there is no evidence to show that that will turn around.”
