Making sense
My hard drive failed last weekend. I had not backed up data in any place and so was very concerned about loosing my data.
After the Geniouses at Apple store, looked at it they dropped the bomb on me. They said that the laptop’s hard drive had an hardware problem and so there was no hope of recovering any data. They proposed that I take the old hard drive and send it to a company, drive savers, who take $400 to just look at the hard drive and it would cost me $1500-$2000 for them to fix it.
Here is what I was thinking:
1. Maybe it is better to get a new Apple for that price.
2. Should they not have better alliances with service providers who charge reasonably for looking into a crisis? Afterall, I am a customer who owns an iPod, iPhone and a MacBook.
So, we decided to get a new hard drive, which cost me $80 so that Apple geniouses could image it for me to use the laptop while I heard back from drive savers.
I took it and the next day was informed that this hard drive does not have a fire cable so my laptop cannot boot off it. They then provided their own hard drive.
I thought;
1. Why did they not provide their own hard drive the first time itself?
So, now I am trying to find some new service provider who could check my hard drive for less money.
This does not make sense to me:
I am definitely not the only person who has expereinced this problem. So, why there are no policies that are better- suited for the customer?
My thinking :
No one ever asked them for a better solution. So, they did not make a better policy.
My 2 cents:
As a consumer, isn’t it important to have policies that make sense – are making life better and reducing pain.
Why don’t we ask for better service and even better products?
