Me and Exercise…???
Many times we make excuses for not taking care of our bodies. The same body that helps us to get to work, gets us to vacations and take care of people we care about. So, the same body needs to be strengthened and kept healthy.
I guess I am just another person preaching to the choir to work out or go for walks. You have heard sermons to work out and probably have a natural mechanics to switch off to any unwanted advice.
If you are a person who loves to work out chances are people believe that you enjoy working out and it entertains you so you are always at it. And it is true to some extent. But then there is a long day at work or you change your career or some family problem hits and you find yourself slipping from your work out regime. And a few months go past, a few years go past and then you find yourself out of shape and stamina. You are reminiscing how fit you used to be and then life just happened…
And then you are convinced that you are too old to exercise and then diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure sets in and few years pass by. You are now living on strong medications and have medical expenses rising up. You are tired at work, tired to keep up with kids….just tired.
Here is my proposal:
Exercise is not a fun to do activity. It is a discourse. You do it no matter what. Tired after work- try yoga and avoid the TV. In the middle of career shift or going through hell try taking the treadmill for 30 mins – you will find yourself in a mood of passion. You lost money in business, try to go for a swim and re-strategize your life…it is the natural way to fight changes in life.
And if you have been told you are a fanatic about exercising…think to yourself…they don’t know what they are missing. I know that exercising is not always fun. Sometimes it is needed because it is just like brushing your teeth or taking a bath. It is part of your life. Many days I find myself making excuses but it is my body taking me for the walk…I find myself hating myself for getting in my track pants and dragging myself to the gym…but here is what my body is telling me…invest in me OR ELSE!!!
You invest in education – so that you have a great career.
You invest in children – so that they grow up to be good individuals.
You invest in your finances – so that you don’t have to work when you are old.
So, YOU need to invest in your body – Or else – what career? what finances?
